Revolut Metal Adds 12 Months of ChatGPT Go. Is It Really a Perplexity Replacement?

Revolut announced the OpenAI partnership on 30 July 2026. The plan ladder is specific:

Paid-plan availability began on the announcement date. The public announcement describes more usage, uploads, document analysis, image generation, and memory than the Free tier. It does not turn Go into Plus.

How unusual is the offer?

This is an unusually generous consumer banking bundle, not a world-first claim. American Express offers up to $300 a year in U.S. statement credits for ChatGPT Business on its Business Platinum and Business Gold cards after enrollment. Among 10 mainstream consumer banking plan domains checked by TripTruth on 5 August 2026, we found no like-for-like 12-month Go inclusion. That is a dated checked-set finding, not proof that no other offer exists.

Market scope matters. Current official evidence verifies the Metal offer on sampled non-U.S. surfaces. Revolut’s U.S. Metal page and U.S. help path did not confirm it on 4 August 2026, so this page does not tell U.S. Metal customers they qualify.

Go is the plan Revolut includes. Calling it a generic “ChatGPT subscription” hides the difference between OpenAI’s paid tiers.

The Go amount is a dated U.S. retail reference, not proof of your local checkout price. OpenAI’s public documentation can change quickly, so use the price and feature list shown in your account.

The useful correction is simple: Metal’s 12-month Go period has a $96 retail ceiling at the dated $8 reference. That is not the value of Plus, and it is not a guaranteed $96 saving. If you would not buy Go, your avoided cash spend is $0.

Claiming is manual. In the Revolut app, open your profile, choose Your plan, view all benefits, select ChatGPT, continue to ChatGPT, then choose Claim free offer on the OpenAI reward page.

Do not rush the last screen. Public sources still leave Metal’s post-promo renewal and payment requirements unresolved. Check the claim screen for the price after the included period, auto-renew wording, payment-method rules, and any claim deadline.

Existing subscriptions change the path

• Direct OpenAI subscribers may start immediately when Go is an upgrade, or after the current billing cycle when it is the same tier or a downgrade.
• Apple App Store and Google Play subscribers must cancel the store subscription before activation.
• One promo code is available per plan. Leaving and later returning does not create another code.
• Ending the eligible Revolut plan ends benefit access and returns the ChatGPT account to Free.

None of that guarantees a refund, billing credit, uninterrupted switch, or a particular renewal outcome.

A Revolut customer email supplied to TripTruth uses plain language: “We’re replacing Perplexity with ChatGPT.” For the addressed Metal account and market, it dates 12 months of ChatGPT Go from 30 July 2026 and removal of the included Perplexity subscription from 2 September 2026. We verified the wording without publishing the screenshot or recipient’s name.

The public record is less tidy. Revolut’s announcement says ChatGPT Go “joins” the partnership suite, while current Cyprus public pages still list Perplexity Pro. The customer email resolves the replacement question for that account and market. It does not turn one schedule into a worldwide Metal rule or prove simultaneous redemption during the apparent transition window.

If your plan screen gives a different date or no replacement notice, use your own account terms. The calculator starts lost Perplexity months at zero so one customer’s evidence does not create a cost for everyone else.

At the default settings, avoided spend is $0. Enter money only when you would otherwise pay for Go, then adjust expected use, any Perplexity months actually lost, and switching costs.

Estimated Go avoided spend = eligible months × the lower of local price or your willingness to pay × expected use.

Estimated incremental cash effect = Go avoided spend − possible Perplexity replacement cost − other transition costs.

A negative result is allowed. That can happen when Go replaces no planned spending but you pay to keep Perplexity, or when subscription overlap consumes the benefit. The tool never adds Go and Perplexity retail prices as automatic bundle value.

For eligible users, Go works as a cash benefit when they already wanted the tier and can move into the offer without paying twice. In that case, the included period can prevent real spending.

It is weak news for someone who expected Plus, would never buy Go, or depends on Perplexity and may need to replace it out of pocket. The retail ceiling does not rescue those cases.

Verdict: the confirmed account-level swap is unusually generous, but it is not enough on its own to justify Metal. Claim only after reading the final screen, checking your own Perplexity removal date, and deciding whether Go replaces spending you would actually make.
